The role of the British Embassy in Yerevan is to maintain and develop relations between the UK and Armenia and it provides services to British nationals living in and visiting Armenia.
Like most embassies and consulates, public access is by appointment only and hence restrictions have to be applied to certain offices and parking areas.
Charter Global were approached by a specialist and experienced construction company, who have worked on similar embassy construction projects around the world.
Assessing the Threats
The two areas of security concern were the Ambassador’s office itself, and a parking bay enclosure.
The office security specification required a shutter of LPS 1175 Issue 7 SR2 rating to be colour matched to the interior décor, but with perforations to allow some light to filter through, should the shutter be deployed during daylight hours.
The parking area also demanded an LPS 1175 SR2 rated roller shutter with perforations, but in this case to allow free airflow to stop the build up of fumes in the parking bay enclosure.
The Obexion Solutions, including LockDown Technology
Charter Global proposed the Obexion UD SR2 range of security shutters which offer a perforated curtain giving a 13% free open area – suitable for both light and fume emission.
The shutter for the Ambassador’s office was fitted with an easy to use push-button control and in addition to the SR2 rating, all Obexion shutters are built with LockDown Technology. This is integrated during the manufacturing process and means that the shutter is self-locking at every point of deployment i.e. it cannot be forced upwards even if partly open.
LockDown means that no auxiliary locking is required – either manual or automatic and allows the Obexion shutters to be used as a first point of entry and ensures there is never a security compromise through incomplete locking procedures.
Likewise, the parking bay SR2 shutter also incorporated LockDown technology and in this case was supplied with 2 remote controls and a non-contact safety system.
International Distribution and After-Care
As a manufacturer who can distribute all around the world, Charter Global always ensure their security shutters are thoroughly tested on installation rigs in the factory prior to shipping, to make installation on site as seamless as possible.
Local country engineers can be trained by Charter Global’s team to fit the Obexion products, but in this instance, Charter’s own engineers worked with the construction company and flew to site to install the Obexion shutters and ensure their correct operation.
The overall result met both the security and aesthetic requirements for the project but also gave a supportive ‘hands on’ approach at every step of the way.
