In an emergency, the effectiveness of a security barrier can depend not only on the protection it provides once closed, but also on how quickly it can be deployed.
RapiDeploy is a custom-built upgrade package available with selected Charter Global Obexion security shutters. It provides dual-speed operation, allowing the shutter to function normally during everyday use but close more quickly when an emergency response is activated.
Depending on the shutter, opening and project requirements, RapiDeploy can reduce closure time by up to half. This helps secure critical openings or create protected internal zones sooner when time is limited.
More Than a Faster Shutter
RapiDeploy is not a standalone product or a standard feature added to every shutter. It is a project-specific package built around a compatible, security-rated Obexion shutter.
Alongside rapid closing, the complete solution can include:
- LockDown technology to prevent the shutter from being raised by force once deployed
- Project-specific safety and risk assessment
- Appropriate operational controls
- Staff training
- Integration with alarms or building management systems
- Ongoing testing and maintenance
- Discreet integration with the surrounding architecture

Once deployed, the shutter retains the independently certified security performance of the selected Obexion system.
The correct shutter and control arrangement will depend on the opening, assessed threat, required security performance and building procedures. Compatible products can include independently certified systems for high-risk and UK Government applications.
Developed in Response to a Real Security Requirement
RapiDeploy was initially developed following an Obexion shutter installation for a high-profile financial-sector client in London.
The client needed to secure internal choke points within an existing building. Security shutters were selected because they could protect the required openings without the space and visual impact of hinged security doors.
After installation, the client asked Charter Global to investigate whether the shutters could close more quickly during an emergency. Rather than modifying the shutter itself, Charter Global worked with its specialist electronics team to develop an upgraded control panel that increased the deployment speed.
The project demonstrated the value of faster closure in buildings where people, property or sensitive areas may need to be protected from a rapidly developing threat.

Supporting Lockdown and Internal Zoning
RapiDeploy can be used to secure external openings or divide a building into controlled internal zones.
Shutters installed at reception areas, entrance lobbies, corridors or other access points can be activated to restrict movement and protect staff, visitors and critical areas during an incident.

The shutters can form part of a wider security response involving personnel, procedures, alarms and access-control systems.
Where Could RapiDeploy Be Appropriate?

RapiDeploy may also be suitable wherever a security shutter is being used to create a safe haven, support a lockdown procedure or protect an important internal access point.
Rapid Closure Requires Careful Planning
| Increasing the closing speed of a shutter introduces additional operational and safety considerations.
The shutter design, opening dimensions, surrounding environment, activation method and intended emergency procedure must therefore be assessed together. Charter Global works with the client and wider project team to determine whether RapiDeploy is appropriate and how it should operate within the building’s overall security plan. |

Early consultation allows the physical security, controls and emergency response requirements to be considered as one coordinated solution.
Plan for a Faster Security Response
Where a threat can develop quickly, the deployment time of a physical security barrier can be an important part of the response.
RapiDeploy combines faster emergency closure with the certified physical protection of Obexion shutters, helping buildings secure critical openings and internal zones when time matters most.
